Public-Interest Research

Contact:  Dr Sherilyn MacGregor & Dr Wallace Heim

PublicSpace collaborates in inter-disciplinary participatory research that seeks to generate useful dialogue between theory or policy and practitioner or public experience.

Our current research interest is in:

  • public engagement with more environmentally sustainable practices through formal institutional processes, citizen-led initiatives and socially engaged arts;
  • developing literacy practices relevant to citizenship, social inclusion and public participation;
  • citizenship in practice, including public and institutional experience of 'active citizenship', environmental citizenship, community initiatives and public participation in policy-making.

Public-interest research is explicitly oriented to the public good, and to open and informed public debate about what is in the public interest.

We bring to a collaborative research project, insights and methods from our experience in social science, discourse analysis, science studies and philosophy.  We offer practical expertise in conducting deliberative interviews and in analysing public, practitioner, institutional and policy discourse.  See publications.

Contact us if you would like to commission research or explore possibilities for a collaboration.

As a not-for-profit organisation, PublicSpace can be included as a named partner within a funding proposal.
